BERNICE LANEY FALIN

July 09, 2026

NORTON, VA - Bernice Laney Falin, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on July 5, 2026, with her daughter Kimberley and son Thomas by her side.
Born on October 26, 1936, in Wise County, Virginia, Bernice was the daughter of Pauline Hamilton Laney and Cloyd Scott Laney.
She grew up in the small mountain community known as the Nettle Patch in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, where generations of her family had made their home. Although she lived in several other states through the years, her heart never left these mountains, and she returned to the place she loved for the remainder of her life.
Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Leonard Alfred Falin; her son, Douglas Bryon Falin; her parents; and her siblings, Virgil Laney, Shirley Stevens, and Joyce Kiser.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Falin, Kimberley Edwards, and Clayton Falin; her grandchildren, Autumn Kuhn, Benjamin Edwards, and Cainan Edwards; her treasured great-granddaughter, Evangelina Willow Bertha; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A lifelong member of Ramsey Church of God, Bernice's faith was the foundation of her life. She faithfully served her church for many years, lovingly preparing hot dogs, homemade fried pies, and apple butter for church fundraisers and always giving wherever there was a need.
Bernice dedicated her life to serving others. She worked with preschool and after-school programs and later with Mountain Empire Older Citizens (MEOC), where she provided transportation, delivered Meals on Wheels, and cared for those who needed a helping hand.
She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, a devoted wife and mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman whose kindness and compassion touched countless lives. Her family was her greatest joy, and those who knew her will remember her as one of the strongest, most selfless women they have ever known.
One of the memories Bernice often shared was that when she saw the light of the Burning Well, she knew she was almost home. It is a comforting thought that she has now seen a far greater light and has finally arrived at her eternal home with the Lord she faithfully served.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23
