Danny Douglas Slone, 79, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026, while at home with his family by his side.
Born and raised in Norton, VA, he spent his early adult years as a welder at the Newport News shipyard and all of his adult life as a coal miner and supervisor until his retirement.
He was of the Christian faith and loved fishing and hunting and was a skilled mechanic, electrician and carpenter who built his own home in 1975.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Junery Willie “Bill” Slone and Jessie Jean Short Slone; one brother, Billy Ray Sloan (Peggy); and one sister, Gail Slone Caldwell (Rowland).
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores “Jean” Dean Slone; three daughters, Tina Slone Nunley (Tony), Jennifer Slone Partin (Randy), and Sandra Slone Roop (Dan); one son, Danny Douglas Slone II (Stephanie); eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Edward Slone (Bonnie) and Stephen Randolph Slone (Goldie); one sister, Anita Slone Peterson (George, deceased); and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Danny Slone will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Tony Nunley and Pastor Mike Hunsucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA with Isaiah Nunley, Ethan Nunley, Jonathan Slone, Bryson Partin, Dakota Roop and Jeremiah Phillips serving as pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. till time of services at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
