GEORGE L. STATZER

NORTON, VA – George L. Statzer, 88, died Friday, June 28, 2024. He retired from Glenn’s Finer Homes after many years as a serviceman. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Norton, a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, and being named a Kentucky Colonel. He volunteered at the local RAM events. George enjoyed being camp host at both Bark Camp Lake and High Knob Recreation Area. He was an early member of the Clinch Coalition and was a Bell Captain for the Salvation Army for several years. George was preceded in death by his wife, Linda A. Statzer and a grandson, Ronald David Green, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Steve Statzer and his wife, Corinne, Mooresville, IN, Russell “Rusty” Statzer, Bristol, TN, George P. “G.P” Statzer, Bristol, VA, and Sherri Statzer, Norton, VA. His grandchildren are Jeremy, Jason, and Heather Rouse; Calvin and Dusty Statzer; Zachary and Shalyn Statzer, Joshua, Christopher and Samuel Green; and 5 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. The funeral service will be at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Jeremy (J.R.) Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
