“When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free”
-- Christina Rosseth
Curtis, Pops, Papaw or Bays (depending upon who was speaking to him) was born to Lloyd and Allie (Lawson) Ritchie on February 3, 1942, on Sandy Ridge.
His parents, along with all of his brothers, Harold, Doug, Glenn, Les and Garry and one sister Anna Lou have preceded him in death.
Curtis leaves behind his loving wife Connie (Nickles) of Coeburn, who has followed him faithfully, for 62 years, where ever he has gone.
Pops has 2 sons. Curtis Wayne (Jennifer Smith) of Walkertown, NC and Gary Ray (Sarah Mills) of Quinton, VA. He has followed his boys over the years. Living near each of them at different times, sharing his strength and wisdom.
Papaw loved his grandchildren. Sarah, Eddie, Grace and Caroline, and great granddaughter Chloe. His eyes held a twinkle when he was with them.
Bays has one living sister. Janet Jones of La Belle, FL.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Jenifer and Misty for their care over the past few months. They were of tremendous help to us. Curtis enjoyed their humor, and truly appreciated their strength and gentleness.
