MARTHA NADINE SMITH

Martha Nadine Smith, 84, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

She was born in Coeburn, VA and was the daughter of late, Paul W. Smith and Lola (Nash) Smith.

Nadine loved her Westover Baptist Church, after becoming ill she began watching Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. David Jeremiah on TV.

After graduating from J.J. Kelly High School. She moved to Washington, DC area, Nadine began her professional career on May of 1961. As a Secretary, for Army Map service, Nadine took great pride in her short-hand and typing speed which served her well throughout her professional career. In 1968 she moved to Tokyo Japan, she worked at the American Embassy, as a Secretary. When she returned to the states, Nadine worked for the Department of Defense Pentagon where she retired after thirty five (35) years. She was an avid morning reader of the Washington Post and Bristol Herald, drinking her hot tea, Pepsi and eating Connie Walter’s pound cake. Nadine loved to crochet, cross stitching, work Sudoku and was a doll collector.

Nadine and Adine loved football, and were devoted Washington Redskins Fans. They won super-bowl tickets, attended four Super-bowls games when Joe Gibbs was the teams Head Coach. They were their Number one (1) Fan.

Nadine has moved on and welcomed in heaven by her parents, Paul and Lola Smith; brothers, Robert, Conley, and Albert; sisters, Missouri, Pauline Anderson, Virginia (Jenny) McGinnis, and Peggy St.Clair; along with her special nephew, Nathan Ogan.

Nadine was close to her family and will be missed by her Twin, Adine Smith and remaining sister’s, Lenora Crabtree, Sue Penley, Gay Gray and husband Jack, Karen Ogan and husband Doug; her brothers, Damon Smith and wife Wanda, Mack Smith and wife Barbara Lee, and Paul (PW) Smith and wife Joy. As well as her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends, Linda Hobbs, Sue Monday, Eva Corbett, Molly Vliet and Ms. Lee.

The family would like to thank Bristol Hospital nurses and doctors, for their special care they gave her, in other words her nurses treated her like their little grandmother.

We also thank Hospice nurses for their help her care takers, Hollie, Caroline, Meredith and family.

Funeral services for Martha Nadine Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Vic Ogan officiating. Burial will follow in the Nash Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. till time of services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Pallbearers will be brother, Paul Willard Smith; nephews, Bradley Hale, Barry Ray King, Darvin Lloyd, Marvin Lloyd, Travis Pucket, and Joseph Foster.
