Two deaths, 57 new cases

Wise County saw 50 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 12,967 to 13,017 in four days, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths increased by two, from 208 to 210.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by seven, from 1,624 to 1,631.
The total number of deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,472,725 Thursday to 1,475,935 yesterday, an increase of 3,210. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 605,830 Thursday to 607,350 yesterday, an increase of 1,520.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 25 to 18,102. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 13 to 3,685.
