County, city report 41 cases

Wise County saw 27 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 12,895 to 12,922 in four days, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
However, the county’s total number of COVID-related deaths was revised down by one since last week, from 209 to 208. The reason was not immediately clear.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by 14, from 1,608 to 1,622.
The total number of deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,466,103 Thursday to 1,469,837 yesterday, an increase of 3,734. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 602,247 Thursday to 604,166 yesterday, an increase of 1,919.

During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 19 to 18,029. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 12 to 3,664.
