GARRISON DALE ROSE

Garrison Dale Rose, 81, passed away on September 14, 2022, at his home in Morristown, TN surrounded by his family. He was born April 23, 1941, on Caney Ridge in Dickenson County, VA, the son of Beuford and Christine (Stanley) Rose.

Known to many as “Coach Rose,” Dale graduated from Clintwood High School, Clintwood, VA in 1958 and from Carson-Newman College in 1962 where he met his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Davis Rose. He also received a master’s degree from Union College in Barbourville, KY.

In his 41 years as an educator and football coach, Dale touched many lives. His coaching career took him to Harriman High School in Harriman, TN; Greeneville High School in Greeneville, TN; J.J. Kelly High School in Wise, VA; Morristown East High School in Morristown, TN; and Northwest Whitfield High School in Dalton, GA. He returned to Morristown and finished his career at Bulls Gap School and Meadowview Middle School.

Dale was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Morristown where he served as a deacon and a member of the Disaster Relief Team as well as many other ministries. He taught Sunday School at Henry Manor Apartments for 25 years and was a long-time supporter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Dale was a friend to all, and he committed his own life to the service of others, beginning with his family. Above all, Dale’s desire was to share his personal relationship with Jesus Christ with others. He was a true example of being salt and light. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:22

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Beuford Rose, his stepfather Norman Kohr, and his grandparents Monroe and Laura Stanley and Columbus and Cora Rose.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor Davis Rose and his daughters Karen Rose of Atlanta, GA, Krista (David) Frahme of Maryville, TN, Kimberly (Clint) Harrison of Morristown, TN, and Kelly (Michael) Harrell of Thompson’s Station, TN. He is also survived by his grandchildren Laura Frahme, Elizabeth (Bradley) Thompson, Ella Harrison, Grace Harrison, Jay Harrison, Lila Harrell, Graham Harrell, Garrison Harrell, and Griffin Harrell. Other survivors include his mother, Christine Rose Kohr, his siblings Kyle (Sonia) Rose, Thurston (Mary Ann) Rose, Mary Ann (David) Rose Hart, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service officiated by Dr. Dean Haun at First Baptist Church, 504 W. Main St, Morristown, TN. A graveside service officiated by Danny Georges will be held Monday, September 19 at 11 a.m. at Hamblen Memory Gardens, 5421 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN.
