Health department offers booster vaccines

October 26, 2021

Effective yesterday, the Lenowisco and Cumberland Plateau health districts are offering COVID-19 booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The health districts already have been offering Pfizer-BioNTech boosters.

A booster dose can be administered at least six months after completion of the mRNA primary series of Moderna and Pfizer to these people:

• Those 65 and older.

• Those 18 or older who live in long-term care, who have underlying medical conditions or who work and live in high-risk settings.

For people who got the single Johnson & Johnson dose, the Centers for Disease Control recommend a booster dose at least two months after the primary dose.

The CDC says booster doses can be mixed and matched among the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Booster vaccines will be offered by appointment only.

To schedule an appointment locally, contact the Wise County/Norton Health Department at 276/328-8000 or the Dickenson County Health Department at 276/926-4979.
