The Norton Kiwanis Club is celebrating a century of service. City Council on June 1 passed a proclamation celebrating the club’s formation on Jan. 18, 1921. Club members, it states, ‘are devoted to improving the world, one child and one community at a time by seeking primacy to the human and spiritual rather than the material values of life.’ It notes that members ‘promote the development of community leaders, positive role models, intercultural understanding and cooperation, and opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, professional development and community service.’
Kiwanis International, launched with the first club in 1915, has more than 551,000 members in more than 80 nations. CITY OF NORTON PHOTO
