Paul Edward Bevins Sr., 76, passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2020 at Norton Community Hospital surrounding by his sons.

He worked most of his life as a carpenter/mason. Paul had a love for “yard selling” and going to flea markets to buy, sale, or trade. He really enjoyed the business part of these hobbies; however, what he enjoyed most was being out around people being social. Paul was a devoted husband, father, papaw, and great-papaw and he loved his family dearly.

Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma Bevins; his father, Charles Bevins; and his mother, Edna Bevins.

He is survived by his son, Robert Bevins of Big Stone Gap; son, Paul Edward Bevins Jr. of Wise; son, Chuck Bevins and wife Lori of Big Stone Gap; son, Matthew Bevins of Big Stone Gap; granddaughters, Brittany Bevins of Dungannon, Megan Bevins of Dryden, Sarah Bevins of Wise, Willa Bevins of Big Stone Gap, Abigail and Jaylan Webb of Big Stone Gap; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam Bevins and wife Karen of Coeburn, Charles Bevins and wife Jennifer of Coeburn and, James Bevins and wife Sue of Coeburn; three sisters, Mary Burke of Coeburn, Shirley Lawson of Coeburn, and Alice Funk of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A special thank you to Norton Community Hospital’s ICU department for Paul’s care during his last week with his family. Also, a special thank you to the general staff at NCH for being accommodating to the family during Paul’s last days and allowing them all to visit while following the guidelines in regards to COVID. A very special thank you goes out to Mountain View Regional 4th floor staff. Thank you for the exceptional care to our dad during the last year in a half. Our dad was blessed with some wonderful nurses as well as other staff that treated dad so well. We will never be able to thank you enough for being so kind to him.

Funeral services for Paul Edward Bevins Sr. were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 5 at the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel in Wise with Rev. Marty Puckett officiating. The family received friends from 5:30 p.m. until time of services.

Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 6 at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. Pallbearers will be Paul’s four sons. We will be following State mandated social distancing and occupancy. Masks are required and will not be supplied by the family or funeral home.
