Small business recovery grants sought

July 10, 2020

Wise County will conduct a public hearing today at 10 a.m. regarding the funding effort for a proposed small business recovery assistance project.

The county’s hearing will take place in the conference room of the county administrator’s office. The public is invited to comment on a proposed community development block grant application to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

The purpose is to provide grants to local businesses that help them adjust to the demands of operating during the COVID-19 virus emergency and within state safety mandates.

Available at the hearing will be information on businesses that could benefit, benefits for low- to moderate-income residents and plans to “minimize displacement,” according to a public notice.

For more information, contact Frank Kibler at the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission, 276/431-2206, or County Administrator Mike Hatfield, 276/328-2321 until the date of the hearing.

Norton City Council intends to hold a public hearing July 21 on its own DHCD application for a small business recovery assistance grant, City Manager Fred Ramey says.
