MILDRED MARIE TOMPKINS KILGORE

Mildred Marie Tompkins Kilgore, 95, of Coeburn, was ushered into heaven April 20, 2020.

Mildred was a faithful Christian and member of Mary’s Chapel Church where she enjoyed teaching Bible School and Sunday School for several decades. She loved to travel, and she especially enjoyed her trip to Israel. Mildred was the matriarch of her family and always looked forward to family dinners at her house where many children played, and adults reminisced.

She was born in Coeburn to the late Jim and Kate Tompkins of Toms Creek, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard D. Kilgore, brothers Raymond Tompkins, Wythe Tompkins, and Joe Tompkins.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara Tompkins Russell of Mt. Joy, PA. and children, Darnell Kilgore and wife, Gayle of Bristol TN, Rosemary Bowman and husband, Bill of Coeburn, Nolan Kilgore and wife, Betty of Coeburn and Ricky Kilgore and wife, Rhonda of Bristol TN; grandchildren Matt Kilgore, Deanna Smith, Adam Kilgore, Kim Rhodes, Jay Marko, Michaela Stanley, Marcus Kilgore, Tyler Kilgore, Josh Kilgore; and 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family is especially grateful to Mildred’s great-great-granddaughter, Nurse Lauren Mabe for providing much needed comfort and care. Also, a special thank you to Donna Adams, her caregiver.

Private Graveside Services will be conducted with burial in Greenwood Acres Cemetery in Coeburn with Pastor Marty Puckett officiating. The family request NO flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary’s Chapel, P.O. Box 989, Coeburn, VA. 24230.
