LOIS MARIE PHIPPS SEXTON

Lois Marie Phipps Sexton 71, passed away June 4, 2022 at Heritage Hall in Clintwood, VA surrounded by the love of her family, after an 18 year battle with cancer.

Lois was born and raised in Clintwood and lived on Bear Pen alongside her parents, brothers and sister. She attended Bear Pen and Clintwood High School. She lived briefly in Chicago, IL where she met her first husband William (Bill) Lawson. They moved back to Bear Pen to raise their two daughters. Lois worked for many years at D&S Market in Clintwood. After William’s death, Lois settled in Wise where she lived with her husband, Jimmy Sexton, until her death. She retired from Walmart in Norton.

Lois was preceded in death by her first husband, William (Bill) Lawson; her parents, Clifford and Stella Phipps; brother, Jack Phipps; sister, Alice Willis; niece, Kimberly Willis; nephew, Jeff Phipps and her beloved yorkie, Abbie.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Sexton and their beloved yorkie, Bella; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Lawson Cox (James) and Lisa Lawson Heater (Michael); step-children, Gregory Sexton, Crystal Sexton and Missy Sexton Beverly; her grandchildren, Billy (Ginny) Cox and Brandon Cox; her great-grandchildren, Remington, Maverick, and Sam; multiple step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, Robert (Linda) Phipps, Bill (Jan) Phipps and Jim (Cindy) Phipps; her brother-in-law Bill (Alice) Willis; many loving cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lois was a loving, welcoming, funny, and warm person who will forever be missed by her family and friends. Her family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Hall Clintwood and The Southwest Virginia Cancer Center.

Memorial service for Lois Sexton will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise with Pastor Robert Phipps officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m Wednesday.
