NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Amendment to Articles 4 and 11 of the Wise County Zoning Ordinance
The Wise County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 12, 2021, 5:00 PM at the Education Center of the Wise County School Board to hear a request for Case No PC21-03 to address a zoning ordinance amendment to Articles 4 and 11 of the Wise County Zoning Ordinance, to define and allow crematoriums as a permitted use on property dedicated for a funeral home and/or cemetery operation, other than private cemeteries. The proposed zoning ordinance amendment would also allow crematoriums in B-1, B-2, M-1 and M-2 Districts as a conditional use and in an A-RR District as a conditional use with a Special Use Permit. Conditions to include, but not limited to, not permitting a crematory within 500 feet of any residential structure or land zoned for residential use not owned by the owner of the crematorium. Requiring necessary permits, licenses, approvals and/or inspections to operate a crematorium, as required by other regulatory agencies, to be obtained, abided by and adhered to for the life of the project as a condition to permitted use. Conditions would also include activity relating to the corpse to be screened from public view, including delivery and storage of the corpse.
The full text of this request are available for viewing in the Office of the Zoning Administrator in the Wise County Courthouse, Suite 220.
