Mrs. Janis C. Powers, 92, of Pound, entered into her eternal reward Thursday May 7, 2020 from her residence. Her loving family was by her side.

Janis was a born again Christian and a long-time member of the Independent Baptist Church of Pound. She was a lifelong resident of Pound. Janis was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Janis received her teaching certificate from Radford University and taught for a short time before becoming a full time homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and a talented artist. Although she was a very private person, Janis was dedicated to her church, her family and her friends.

Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Don Powers; her son Avery Don Powers; her parents, Norman and Lillie (Mullins) Crouse; her sister, Betty Lundy; and a brother, John A. Crouse.

Survivors include her son Lyndon Powers and wife Joyce of Pound; daughter–in-law Judy Shortt and husband Bobby of Pound; granddaughter Wilma Elaine Powers Dalton of Pound; great-granddaughter, Alafair Winter Dalton of Pound; nieces Carol Powell and Connie Brown; nephew Ketron Lundy; her caregivers Linda Osborne, Tammy Sturgill and Vicky Stanley; and a host of friends and loved ones.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Ashley Bevins and Hospice and Palliative Care of Virginia nurses Tabitha, Barb and Diane.

Family and friends will have the opportunity to gather for graveside services while following social distance guidelines and practices at noon Monday May 11 at the Crouse Cemetery in Pound with Reverend Randy Reagan officiating. Lyndon Powers, Bobby Shortt, Randy Shortt, Roger Clyde Mullins, Kenny Bolling and Johnny Tompkins will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Avery Don Powers Memorial Scholarship Fund at UVA Wise: Office of Developmental Services, One College Avenue, Wise, VA 24293.
