DAR Good Citizen Essay Contest winner is Sydney Laney

Boone Trail National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution will not meet for the April meeting due to the Corona Virus precaution guidelines. If it were possible, the chapter would have the winning essay read at our regular meeting and present the winner with a $100 cash prize; a certificate of achievement; and a medal from Daughters of The American Revolution.
We are pleased to announce the winner of the Good Citizen Essay Contest in our area schools. Sydney Laney, an outstanding senior at Eastside High School, in Coeburn was chosen as the winner of the contest by judges in the fall.

Sydney is the daughter of Debbie and Danny Laney of Castlewood. Sydney obtained a 600 or perfect score on the Virginia’s Standard of Learning Tests in Biology at the high school level. Obtained a 500 or advanced score on The Virginia Standard of Learning Tests in the following courses at the high School level: Earth Science, Algebra I, Algebra II, World Geography.

Sydney is a member of the Nation Honor Society 2017-2020. She is Knights of Columbus Young Lady of the Year 2018. and now the winner of The DAR Good Citizen Essay Contest 2020.

Sydney completed many courses through dual enrollment at both MECC and UVA Wise. Sydney is very active in her church, school, and community. She is a member of the girls varsity tennis team at Eastside High School; member of Lifetime Sports Club; Modern General Assembly; Student Council and Wise County Student Leadership Council Club. She is a member of the Kiwanis Club. In addition Sydney enjoys bike riding, walking dogs, painting, drawing, hiking, kayaking, bowling, music, roller skating, socializing with her friends.
