O’DONNA RAMSEY

April 13, 2020

O’Donna Anita Ramsey left this world unexpectedly on Friday, April 10, 2020. She was born to the late Kerwin Ramsey and Sue Ramsey of Wise, VA.

She is survived by her mother Sue, brother, Mark and wife Suzanne, sisters, Marina and husband Mike Wright, Diane and husband Steve Brooks, several nieces, a nephew and her beloved pets.

O’Donna never knew a stranger and loved a lively conversation.  She was an award-winning news reporter for the Coalfield Progress for many years. Most recently, she worked as an educator at Wallen’s Ridge State Prison and was a member of Nash’s Chapel.

She was an avid gardener, who delighted in discovering new varieties of flowers for her extensive borders and beds.  She was also a devoted animal lover, who defended and rescued many wild and domestic creatures throughout her lifetime.  She lovingly cared for her four-legged “children”, often sacrificing her own needs for theirs. Also known as an excellent photographer, she was rarely without her camera. Her flowers, animals and family gatherings were her favored subjects.

Generous to a fault, O’Donna loved to share her stories, photos and plants. Even now, her generosity continues through the gift of her organs to many strangers she was anxious to help.

Private Graveside Services will be held and O’Donna will rest amongst her beloved ancestors in the Nash Family Cemetery on Coeburn Mountain Road with Rev. Jim Collie and Pastor John Tull officiating.

The family request NO flowers. Please make memorial donations to an animal rescue organization.
